A Surreal Kind of Normal is a browser-based piece that explores the absurdity and dissonance of our contemporary human condition under late stage capitalism. Through a Baudrillardian lens, the work emerges from the non-place essence of stock images, forgotten Poshmark listings, and Amazon product photography — a hollow essence that unites these digital artifacts with shopping malls, Disneyland, and the like in their construction of a surreal hyperreality.
The artist performs not as a singular character, but as an amalgamation of the cultural sentiments that render consumption as Spectacle, capitalism as ethos, and desire itself as commodity. She is a “girl” who is not girl, existing in a reality that is a surreal kind of normal.
Physical edition includes a custom case containing the net.art piece on a USB flash drive.
